OpenOverland is a fully open project.
All designs, documentation, and materials published under the OpenOverland project are free to use for both commercial and non-commercial purposes, without fees or special permission.
The goal of this license is not restriction — it is attribution, transparency, and standardization.
Scope
This license applies to:
- CAD models
- Parametric design files
- Documentation
- Schematics
- Design standards Recognition
It does not apply to:
- Third-party components
- External tools or libraries
- Independently developed systems not derived from OpenOverland materials
- Referenced manufacturer documentation (see below)
Permissions
You are free to:
- Use the designs privately or commercially
- Manufacture and sell derivative works
- Modify, adapt, and extend the designs
- Combine OpenOverland designs with proprietary or closed systems
No royalties.
No approval required.
No obligation to open-source derivatives.
Requirements
The following requirements are mandatory.
1. Attribution
Any use of OpenOverland designs — commercial or non-commercial — must include clear attribution.
Attribution must:
- Reference the OpenOverland project by name
- Include a link to the official repository or website
- Be visible in documentation, marketing materials, or product descriptions
Example:
“This vehicle is based on the OpenOverland standard.”
2. Disclosure to End Customers
If OpenOverland designs are used in a commercial product or build, end customers must be informed.
This disclosure may be satisfied by:
- Documentation provided at delivery
- A build specification sheet
- Public-facing product descriptions
The intent is transparency, not restriction.
3. Use of the OpenOverland Name
You may state that a product:
- “Uses OpenOverland designs”
- “Is based on the OpenOverland standard”
- “Is compatible with OpenOverland”
You may not:
- Claim official endorsement unless granted
- Imply exclusive partnership
- Present derivative work as the canonical OpenOverland project
Third-Party Reference Documents
OpenOverland documentation references materials produced by third parties, including but not limited to:
- Ford Motor Company Body Builder Layout Books
- LiquidSpring installation manuals and tear sheets
- nuCamp RV product documentation
- Manufacturer specifications, installation guides, and dimensional data
These documents are the property of their respective owners. OpenOverland does not produce, reproduce, host, or distribute them. References to these documents are provided for informational purposes only, to identify sources used during the engineering process.
Obtaining these documents is the responsibility of the builder. OpenOverland makes no claim of ownership or rights over any third-party materials.
No Warranty
All materials are provided as-is.
OpenOverland makes:
- no warranties
- no guarantees
- no claims of compliance, safety, or fitness
Builders and manufacturers are solely responsible for:
- validation
- structural analysis
- regulatory compliance
- safety certification
Why This License Exists
This license exists to:
- Encourage adoption
- Enable real-world builds
- Promote transparency
- Establish OpenOverland as an open standard
OpenOverland is not a product — it is a foundation.
Governance
- This license applies to all current and future releases unless explicitly stated otherwise
- Changes to the license will be documented and versioned
- Prior releases remain governed by the license in effect at the time of release
If you build with OpenOverland, say so.
If you sell with OpenOverland, disclose it.
If you improve it, share knowledge when possible.
That is the only expectation.
